During PlayStation Meeting 2016, Sony announced two new versions of PlayStation 4 called PlayStation 4 Slim and PlayStation 4 Pro launched this year. Including the current PS4 model, it is going to be 3 different PlayStation 4 models that can run Final Fantasy XV.

This comes to question to the current PS 4 owner that whether they should buy the new PS4 pro in order to get the best 4k gaming experience or not. Or using the current model is enough.

First, Let’s Take a Look at Their Differences.

PlayStation 4 Slim

PlayStation 4 slim is an upgraded version of PlayStation 4 by making it smaller, lighter, less power consumption, yet maintain the same specs as the standard PS4. PlayStation 4 Slim is going to release in Sep 16, 2016 for the 500GB version and Sep 19 for the 1TB version. It will completely replace the standard PS4 version, like the way Sony did before with previous PlayStation series.

PlayStation Pro

Unlike the PS4 slim, PlayStation Pro, previously known as PS4 Neo, is thicker, heavier, and use more power consumption than the other 2 versions but it comes with a better graphic card. With this, it can support 4k HDR gaming and even 2 times faster than other versions, as claimed by Sony, resulting in the best and smoothest gaming experience ever. It also has an additional USB 3.1 port as an extra.

Because of the upgraded graphic card, PlayStation 4 is able to capture video at 1080p, take 4k screenshots, and share it to social medias almost instantly depending on your internet speed.

In the near future, several games, including Final Fantasy XV, will be introduced with “Pro-Enhanced” logo on the game package telling that it can support 4K and can run with a better resolution and frame rates. Fortunately, all PS4 models are still able to run all future games with an increased graphic setting option especially for the PS4 Pro as mentioned by Sony.

The two new PlayStation 4 models also come with an upgraded version of DualShock having a small light bar on top of the touch pad showing controller’s light color without having to flip the controller and look at the back.

How’s About Final Fantasy XV?

Final Fantasy XV was chosen as a feature game during PlayStation 4 showcase video in 2016 PlayStation Meeting. Although it’s just only a few seconds sample, screenshots are taken showing better details and resolutions than a previous gameplay we have seen so far. But question is, is it going to be worthwhile to invest $399 more for those who already have PS4 or $100 more for those who are planning to get PS4 slim. The answer depends on your own budget and expectation.

Let’s say you already have a 4k TV and some budget to spare, spending $100 USD more should not be a problem considering that several future games will be released with 4k option. As a plus, PS4 Pro supports upcoming VR games better than other models. However, if you do not have the TV and do not plan to buy it, go for a slim version should be a better idea.

Graphical wise, the current PS4 is good at some point. You might not even feel any problem with it unless you have a chance to directly play with 4k before. And gaming performance will not be an issue at all.

On the other hand, if you already have PS4, selling it and purchase the pro version especially for Final Fantasy XV should not be a good idea. So far, we actually haven’t known much about the difference between 4k setting and normal setting at all apart from that few seconds from the showcase video. It can be a different story if you are that addicted to the absolute best picture.
