As we get closer to November 29, more details about Square-Enix’s Final Fantasy XV become public. Initial previews reveal that each of the party characters will get a non-combat oriented skill. Photography is one of the available skills that will be unique to Prompto. He is Noctis’, the main character’s, best friend and happens to like snapping pictures on his phone. This merges into the overall theme that the four boys are on a road trip, and Prompto is taking pictures for the memories.
The game will allow you to store up to 100 of your favorite photos. However, this will not be a “free-form” photography mode, such as something akin to the camera in Grand Theft Auto V. Instead, every time Prompto takes a picture he gets a set number of skill points for those photos with more points being rewarded to specific “Photo Op” sidequests. The photos themselves can be viewed whenever Noctis and the part rest or set up camp for the night.
Whenever a camp is set up, you will have the option to choose what foods to eat and what skills to level up. During this time, Prompto will share 10 photos to the group, and they will even talk about the pictures. As Promtpo gains more photography abilities, he will be able to add filters to the pictures as well as gain the ability to take selfies. However, the specifics on Prompto’s skill progression are limited at the moment.
Interestingly, Prompto is the main character of the Playstation VR’s experience of Final Fantasy XV. This is a completely different game exclusive to Sony’s VR system and it plays more like a shooter than an RPG. However, this may be where Square-Enix has chosen to include a “free-form” photography mode.
It will be interesting to see if this is the case. The following are the skills that each of the party players will use:
